VIT Vellore CSE Branch Placements in 2016-2017: An In-Depth Analysis

Overview of Placement Scenarios in the CSE/IT Branch

Placement outcomes for the CSE branch at Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) Vellore in the 2016-2017 academic year were quite encouraging. Generally, the overall placement scenario reflected the institute’s strong comparative advantage in engineering education, ensuring almost inevitable job placements for students if they perform well academically and maintain a competitive edge in extracurricular activities.

Placement Achievements and Statistics

The best placement offers in the batch reached up to 30 LPA (Lakhs Per Annum). However, with exceptional performance, some students could secure packages as high as 40 LPA. By the end of August, the vast majority of students were successfully placed, with only a few exceptions. For prospective students, selecting CSE or IT branches is advisable; these branches offer the highest job prospects compared to other streams.

Major Placement Highlights

Several leading companies such as Microsoft, Cisco, Amazon, and several others provided significant opportunities. Microsoft and Cisco, along with other tech giants, visited the campus, making placements highly competitive. Approximately 30-35 super-dream companies visited the campus, with Microsoft and Cisco leading the pack. Some 10-15 students managed to secure positions at Microsoft. For Cisco, around 20 students were selected to undertake internships through the CCNA program, with a potential conversion to full-time employees based on their performance. In addition, some 90-100 dream companies, such as Amadeus, Teradata, Netscope, Sapient, Deloitte, Dell, HSBC, ZS Associates, Zoho, Wells Fargo, and Blackrock, extended offers to a substantial number of students in the batch. Amazingly, there were a few more companies like Sabka Masiha that participated in mass placements, offering a wide range of opportunities to graduating students.

Placement Advice for Prospective Students

For students joining VIT, it is highly recommended to pursue CSE or IT branches, as these offer the most lucrative job prospects, especially if you are academically inclined and have a passion for technology. However, be realistic about the value provided by the institute. While the placement fees at private colleges are higher, the actual placement outcomes are often comparable to those achieved at other educational institutions. For instance, if you pay 14 lakhs for the fees, you might only receive a job offer worth 7 lakhs, while at other private colleges like LPU, a student with good grades might only pay around 8 lakhs and secure a job worth 4.25 lakhs. It is crucial to remain awed and reasonably optimistic about future placements.

Conclusion

The placement scenarios at VIT Vellore for the CSE/IT branch in the 2016-2017 academic year were favorable, highlighting the institute’s robust capabilities in placing its students in top companies. However, it is essential to approach the college admission process with a realistic and informed perspective, considering not only placements but also the overall educational experience and long-term career prospects. Remember, while your college might not define you, your character, zeal for success, and innovative approach to solving problems will contribute significantly to your success in any chosen field.
