The Role of God in a World of Suffering: A Biblical Perspective
Why do we often question God's involvement in our world's suffering? Why does He seem so distant despite our struggles? In this article, we explore the biblical reasons behind God’s apparent indifference and how Christians can find hope and peace in such a fallen world.
Why Most People Are Distant from God
Many of us have grown distant from God because we do not listen, follow instructions, nor study His words. We often believe we can make all our decisions independently without His input. However, this mindset ignores the reality that our life's purpose and direction come from Him.
When we misplace our trust in our own abilities and disregard His wisdom, we set ourselves up for frustration and suffering. True change and relief come not from external interventions but through personal actions and a closer relationship with God.
A Biblical Explanation for Suffering
The Bible provides us with answers to these difficult questions. The current state of our world is a result of humanity’s sin and rebellion against God. The fall of Adam and Eve allowed Satan to exert control over the world.
According to the Bible, we can find this explanation in 1 John 5:19: ‘We know that we are from God, and the whole world lies in the power of the evil one.’ And in 2 Corinthians 4:4, it is stated: ‘For the god of this world has blinded the eyes of the people, so that they do not see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God.’
Waiting for the Return of Jesus
Hope lies in the fact that God will one day fully restore the world and bring about an eternal realm of peace and joy. The Bible encourages us in Titus 2:13, stating: ‘Looking for the blessed hope and the appearing of the glory of our great God and Saviour, Jesus Christ.’
Until then, we are called to endure and find strength in our faith. The Bible reminds us that suffering does not come from our personal failures but from the inherent sin that separates us from a holy God. Through faith and repentance, we can find forgiveness and eternal life.
Turning to God for Salvation
While the world may seem dark, the Bible offers us a way to find light. If you turn from sin and trust in Jesus, He promises eternal life. Ephesians 2:8-9 tells us: ‘For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.’
God wants to save you. Call on Him, and He will guide you towards eternal peace and happiness.
