Reflections on the Potential Cancellation of The Big Bang Theory for Season 11
How I feel
I feel like it should have been cancelled way earlier! Like How I Met Your Mother (HIMYM) and many other shows, they went too far. The characters have lost their substance for a long time. The Big Bang Theory (TBBT) has become just a romantic sitcom like any other. It's a shame but money commands.
Well, that's a bit sad because I will miss Sheldon and the other characters. But to be honest, I think that the show has become a bit boring. In each episode, I laugh at only 1 or 2 jokes. That's sad... Anyway, it must be said that the last episode was shocking. Who knows what Amy can answer! Haha, so let's hope the script writers will find other captivating subjects to write about and surprise us.
What went wrong?
The show has run its course, and storyline ideas are becoming increasingly difficult. The evolution of the three main characters has eventually been its downfall. But really folks, how long did they seriously think this show could go on in its present state?
The original idea for the show was to show the nerds of America that it was cool to be nerdy. Leonard, with a gorgeous wannabe actress going out and even sleeping with him, seemed out of reach for most nerds. Leonard has almost become a shadow of his former character and is far less funny than his old self.
Sheldon is no longer the boy genius, anti-social, Nobel-prize-seeking freak of nature he once was. Adding a girlfriend to his life just destroyed a once-great character. As for Penny, she has evolved into a non-shallow, self-sufficient, non-freeloading responsible ambassador of self-confidence. When we first met her, she was a 21-year-old wannabe actress with low self-esteem and a manipulative little sex pot who just needed to flaunt her boobs to get whatever she wanted. I like the old Penny much better.
Howard and Raj, the remaining cast members, have also become useless. Howard's marriage to Bernadette, whose character has never brought anything to the table, was the death of a once-appealing character in its own right. Howard was the sex-crazed engineer who would do and try anything just to get laid. His marriage just destroyed the once-funny character entirely. And then they gave him a baby to raise—shouldn't they have just shot him?
As for Raj, the once-marginally funny geek who couldn't talk to women unless he was drunk, is now nothing more than a pathetic, reliant on his parents' money, useless goofball who would be better served if Homeland Security came to his door and deported him back to India.
Business Concerns
The addition of Mayim Bialik as the geeky-in-search-of-a-life-and-friends character actually brought something constructive to the show. Although I don't think I would have cast her as Sheldon's girlfriend, it would have been more feasible for Sheldon to come out of the closet and just discover he is gay as he is in real life.
Maybe Raj and Stuart can come out together, and begin their own little gayathon with Sheldon for a finale. Leaving Amy to win a Nobel Peace Prize for social behavioral science, making people see their sexuality that was once hidden and buried deep in their subconscious. Maybe even Leonard's mother can reprise her role in Sheldon's coming out. They always seemed sympatico with each other.
Getting past all the storyline difficulties and cast egos, there is also a business concern to be discussed. The three main characters Sheldon, Leonard, and Penny all make $1 million per episode, while Raj and Howard make $750,000 per episode. Melissa Rauch and Mayim Bialik make only $500,000 per episode, and with demanding raises by the supporting cast, the show is not making any money. Although the show in syndication reruns is making far more than it ever dreamed.
Finale Suggestions
The show is signed for another two years for seasons 11 and 12, but rumors of the show's eventual cancellation are still being bantered about. For the show's finale, Howard, Bernadette, and Stuart should all die in a plane crash, culminating their dreary characters in a fiery ball of misery that they have put us through for the past three seasons.
Sheldon should tell Amy he's gay, and Amy should have a lesbian affair with Leonard's mother. Raj should be arrested by Homeland Security and deported back to India or maybe even be shot as a spy. Penny and Leonard should win the lottery, and Penny should buy her own movie studio and go into directing, getting revenge on all the actors and directors who caused her so much misery.
All in all, it has been a great run, but as we all know, "All good things must come to an end." So long, TBBT. It was fun while it lasted. But please, I beg you, don't put us through another two seasons of this tripe. I may have to kill myself.
