Overcoming Challenges: My CA Final Experience in January 2020 and the Journey of Persistence

Introduction

Preparing for the Chartered Accountant (CA) final exams can be an arduous journey, especially with multiple attempts. What sets this journey apart is the unwavering determination and perseverance that propels one to succeed. My story, based on the events of January 2020, is a testament to the power of persistence and resilience. This article explores the challenges faced, the strategies followed, and the outcomes of a long-awaited and hard-fought victory.

Challenges and Struggles

My 6th attempt at the CA final exam in January 2020 was not my first bout with this rigorous examination. Throughout my academic journey, I had faced several challenges that tested my resolve. Key among them was the unexpected cancellation of the May 2020 examination and the resultant stress from past failures. My focus toggled between the different groups, but despite my efforts, the anxiety was palpable.

As the day to receive the results approached, I was filled with anticipation and unease. The nervousness was particularly heightened as it had been over a year since the May 2020 examinations were canceled. The day finally arrived, and I began checking for results from early morning. By the afternoon, my brother's waiting became excruciating, but we both knew the pivotal moment was drawing closer.

Navigating the Results

Waiting for the result was a rollercoaster of emotions. By 2 PM, the tension was just unbearable. I adjusted my laptop on my tummy and spent the day refreshing the results page repeatedly, even while chatting with a friend who was also in the midst of the same ordeal.

As the day dragged on, the anticipation turned to anxiety, and I sought solace by laying on the bed, waiting for any piece of news. Finally, at 7:30 PM, the message arrived, followed by a mix of joy and relief. The moment I saw my result, the first group was passed after five consecutive failures. It was a surreal experience, and it took a while to process the success.

The joy, however, was short-lived as the pending second group and the impending May exams added to the stress. It was a turning point, prompting me to reevaluate my approach and plan for the remaining duration. The outcome of this attempt was a turning point in my CA journey, and it was all thanks to the relentless efforts put in during the preparation phase.

Foundation and Historical Context

My CA journey didn't start as smoothly as it ended. The Chartered Accountancy (CA) foundation, formerly known as CPT, was a stepping stone that provided a solid foundation. In November 2018, I qualified with a score of 141/200, which amounted to a 70.5%.

The journey back to the CA final was not without obstacles. Despite not having a formal plan, the cancellation and postponement of the May 2020 exams due to the COVID-19 pandemic provided an unexpected opportunity. My mother's support and the motivation from my family helped me fill out the form, leading to the registration and subsequent preparation.

Final Reflections

Months of hard work and self-discipline culminated in the CA final result in January 2020. I joined a coaching class late and worked diligently, passing with distinction. The journey, though short and intense, was rewarding and has become an invaluable part of my professional and personal growth.

The experience of this attempt serves as a reminder of the importance of perseverance and a strategic approach in the face of challenges. Whether facing setbacks or unexpected obstacles, staying committed to your goals and seeking support can make a significant difference.
