Is the Delhi AAP Government Competent? A Middle Class Perspective
As a middle-class working tax payer living in a nuclear family of four, I am here to share my experience and observations on the competence of the Delhi government, particularly under the leadership of Mr. Arvind Kejriwal. The AAP government, which took office in 2015, has often been lambasted for its policies and inefficiencies. One of the most critical criticisms revolves around the rise in water and electricity costs compared to previous administrations. With expectations that the government would bring about positive change, many taxpayers have found themselves in a situation where the cost of utilities has increased by as much as 10 times. This has led to frustration and a stark contrast between the promises made during the campaign and the realities faced by the public.
The Inefficiency of the Delhi Government
Another key issue is the lack of public transport and services that are essential for daily life. In previous administrations, public transportation was reliable and affordable, but under the AAP government, this has not been the case. Many citizens find themselves waiting for hours at bus stops, much longer than they did under the previous government. This inconsistency in service delivery is a significant concern for the middle class, who rely heavily on these services to manage their daily lives.
Critique of Kejriwal’s Leadership
Mr. Arvind Kejriwal, the former Civil Service Officer, initially created a buzz with his anti-corruption stance during the Anna Hazare movement. However, his leadership has faced criticism for not addressing the fundamental issues plaguing the city. One major point of criticism is his approach to dealing with the pandemic. During the COVID-19 crisis, Delhi faced severe challenges as hospitals were overwhelmed, with patients lying alongside those who had passed away. This humanitarian crisis was exacerbated by a lack of adequate planning and efficient management.
His handling of the Tabeligi Jamaat congregation in Hazrat Nizamuddin marks another significant failure. Despite claims of vigilance and action, large numbers of individuals attending the congregation went undetected, leading to a potential spread of the virus. This not only reflects poorly on the government's vigilance but also on its preparedness in managing public health emergencies.
Concerns and Calls to Action
These issues highlight a deeper concern among the common tax payers of Delhi. The government's failure to deliver on its promises has led to a sense of disillusionment. As a middle-class taxpayer, it is essential to understand the true nature of the government's policies and actions. Arvind Kejriwal's approach to politics has been criticized for its lack of straightforwardness and for appeasing certain voter groups at the expense of the broader public interest. This raises questions about whether the government truly serves the best interests of its citizens or if it is more focused on short-term political gains.
The competence and effectiveness of the Delhi government, particularly under the current leadership, are thus subject to scrutiny. It is imperative for citizens to stay informed and question the actions of their elected officials.
