Embracing a Purposeful Life: Why Early Retirement Isn't Just for Some

Nope. And hopefully never will it be. Early retirement is a personal journey that suits some and not others. As I pen this, I am grateful to enjoy my freelance work, and my wife, who desires it, is taking the first steps towards early retirement. Our life will undoubtedly change in composition, but not in spirit. From now on, the type of work I will be doing will shift towards more personal projects, with a broader clientele.

Similarly, stock and options trading, once a dormant passion, has sparked anew. This activity, as Warren Buffett and Charlie Munger have demonstrated, can be pursued even into old age, as long as one's mental faculties are intact.

I don’t plan to retire in the traditional sense at least not yet. I love what I do, and I am blessed to have the freedom to work from anywhere that offers a reliable internet connection. So, rather than the traditional timeline of 30-40 years of work followed by retirement, we are choosing to lead our lives now, enjoying our present while others are merely waiting to retire.

Not sure why more people don’t consider this approach. Perhaps it’s the deep-seated belief in the necessity of traditional retirement, or the fear of missing out on potential career advancements. But if you truly love what you do, the prospect of working for more years can become a powerful motivator.

So why wait? Why drag out your life in pursuit of a traditional retirement that may not align with your personal dreams and desires? Instead, seek a way to incorporate your passions and purposeful work into your everyday life. Whether it’s freelance writing, drawing, trading stocks, or any other activity, find a way to engage in it now, for a richer, more fulfilling life.

In conclusion, early retirement isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution. It's about finding what works for you and embracing a life that brings you satisfaction and joy, regardless of age or conventional norms. Join us in seeking out a more purposeful and fulfilling path today, and let your journey begin.
